Capable of reaching 0-60 mph in less than four seconds, with top speeds reaching 200-plus and price tags of more that $1 million is the realm where you will find several of most expensive (and fastest) cars in the world. Few will ever own them. Most will have to settle for marveling at their opulence design or reading about their specifications in a magazine.
They have been designed by some of the best engineers on the planet. Each engineer spent years earning their vocational degrees as automotive mechanics and used the skills they learned to design some of the best cars on the planet, each with a hefty price tag.
- Bugatti Veyron Super Sport – When Bugatti engineers began to design the Veyron, they had one goal in mind: To make it the fastest car anyone has ever seen. Two years later, the Bugatti still holds the record as the fastest, street legal car in the world, with a top speed of nearly 268 miles per hour (mph). With an 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged, 16-cylinder engine and ability to travel from 0-to-60 mph in 2.2 seconds, the Veyron Super Sport will just be a blur to even the most trained of eyes.
Bystanders can hear the strident sound let out by the engine as it aims to reach its top speed. Since its release in 2005, the German automaker has built a name for itself by mixing together a rich racing tradition as well as luxury design in a sporty package. With a price tag around $2,400,000, it’s by far the most expensive car in the world. - Aston Martin One-77 – Aston Martin continue to innovate. With its One-77 two-door coupe, it also aims to provide one of the fastest and most expensive cars in the world. Capable of reaching 0-to-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, its 7.3-liter V-12 engine manages to propel this beauty with 750 horsepower (hp). With a top speed of 220 mph, only a lucky few can afford the One-77’s $1,850,000 price tag.
Coalesced as a luxury car with a clandestinely powerful engine, only a few will ever see the vehicle in person because of its rarity. As with many expensive luxury cars, only around 100 have been made because of their price tag and delicacy to build. Still, this baby manages to turn heads everywhere it goes. - Lamborghini Reventon – The engineers over at Lamborghini always manage to produce some of the world’s most prized cars, mainly for their performance and stylish look. Inspired by the Lamborghini Murcielago’s body, the Reventon aims to enhance its features by adding in a faster engine, better features, and yes, a higher base price.
With an engine that can reach 0-to-60 mph in 3.3 seconds behind 650 hp, this beauty is so expensive because of the little details, such as carbon fiber exterior, heatproof LED exterior lights and hand-built engine. With only 20 cars in existence, it’s no wonder why the Reventon comes in at around $1,600,000.
The design of these super cars manages to raise the bar for the performance of all cars. Engineers for each respected company will continue to take inspiration from rivals to build newer, better, faster machines. The next wave of automobile engineers is currently attending schools such as diesel mechanic schools so they can try their hand at creating the next super car.
