Just relax..go back..back to the day when you first bought the brand new bike to your home. The day you kept rubbing it with a soft cloth just to keep the shine on. Now..stop…and come back to reality, peep out of the window and tell me, would you brush that soft cloth on this rigid, crude, harsh, boiled plate of steel that encompasses your bike. No!! of course you wouldn’t. Cutting the story short, why don’t we for a change beautify that ever so neglected piece of metal that has always warmed your arse. Follow these pointers, and maybe the girl in the opposite building might grant you a look.
Cleaning & Washing:
Yes. Your mother was right when she told you to take a bath everyday and you never listened. Now forget about what you dint do, but don’t keep the baby unwashed. Wash the bike with bucket of plain water, yes don’t splurge on washing powder, and a soft cloth. If you have extra bucks, don’t take the bike for washing, instead save it for the worse years ahead. The reason that avoiding jet spray based washes is that the jet sprays water at high pressures, and this might lead to water seepage in patches and corners where it might be difficult to wipe dry. Thus, leading to rusting.
Wash the bike once a month, and don’t wash it everyday as it might lead people to believe that you actually do it for a business. And do take out your baby for a spin after the washing exercise to dry the water. Another very important thing is that PLEASE COVER THE EXHAUST. Cover it using plastic polybags and rubber bands
Give me some shade:
Always as a rule park your bike in shade. The reasons; bike color wont fade and the fuel evaporation wont happen. By not showing excess sunlight, the bike will remain great and shiny. In rains too, protect it by parking it under a hood. Always remember that rubber parts like rubber engine mountings, rubber fuel lines, and electric wire insulations always take wear and tear when exposed to harsh weather.
Bike Cover:
Please invest in some clothes for your bike, in terms of bike cover. If you want branded clothes, ensure you buy the same for the bike. If you are cheap, be ready to own a bruised bike and don’t complain when no girl checks you out twice. Buy a bike cover that is soft from inside and doesn’t cause friction with the bikes body.
Use rubber patches to prevent rusting:
If you can stick a rubber patch to the bottom of the side and main stand. This will reduce rusting and give padding when you park the bike on any of the stands. Also rubber padding can be patched on the manual start lever. Rusting is one enemy you want to protect your bike from.
Rust prevention spray:
If you got the moolah, please invest in a good antirust spray. There is a spray called WD40, awesome it is. Use it in places that might be exposed and need a protection.
Teflon coat:
Ya it needs a lot of money. If you are a college going guy, too sad you got to live with whatever tips we gave in the beginning. But, if you are guy who gets it all, and I am so Jealous of, please get the bike a Teflon coat every 3 months. It works great protecting your bike from all the dust and rust on the road.
Ya I am done blabbering, but would again repeat, if you have tips that could help fellow bike lovers, please share the knowledge and help other. You are not in school anymore, we won’t score more that you if you share. Happy riding!!!
