Cyrus Mistry, of Shapoorji Pallonji will become the head of Tata Group when he replaces Ratan Tata who will be retiring from the company that bears his name. The 43 year old Mistry is an Irish citizen and has been since 2003 due to the fact that his mother is an Irish national. Mistry’s two siblings are also Irish citizens.
Mistry who has been running the real estate firm of his father Shapoorji Pallonji and Company will now head Tata Group. Mistry has been on the board of Tata Sons since 2006 when his father stepped down as director.
Ratan Tata has spent the better part of last year searching for a likely candidate to take his place. Initially it was thought that half brother Noel Tata would be the heir apparent, but that was not to be so. Arun Sarin of Vodafone and Indra Nooyi of PepsiCo were also in the running but Ratan Tata finally selected Cyrus Mistry who will be taking over from Ratan Tata when he retires.
