Tata Motors challenges Singur Land Act

An order received by Tata Motors from Calcutta High Court was challenged by the company with regards to Singur Land Rehabilitation and Development Act 2011.  The judgment passed by the single judge passed in favor of Government of West Bengal was opposed by Tata Motors.  The auto giants have appealed against the judgment passed on September 28 by Justice I P Mukerji.  A copy of their appeal has been handed over to Mr. A K Banerjee, Government Pleader.

The Court has ordered a stay on the judgment till November 2nd to permit aggrieved parties to file an appeal.

This petition is likely to be put forth once High Court reopens on October 31.  Tata Motors which had set up their Nano plant at Singur was forced to move out in 2008 to set up base at Sanand in Gujarat following large scale unrest and security problems at the Singur plant.
