Maruti's Manesar plant workers strike again

It seems that Maruti Suzuki India's Manesar plant is causing unending pain to them. Its hardly been a month that the 13 day strike was called off, that the workers have again gone on strike today afternoon. The last time the strike happened Maruti ended up losing nearly Rs 630 crore. The reason for this strike is that five of the workers were suspended over "allegedly assaulting a supervisor" yesterday. One of the company spokesperson said, "One of the supervisors was assaulted by workers yesterday and when disciplinary action was being taken by way of suspension today, they have struck works at the plant.

The five suspended workers apparently have been issued a showcause notice by the management. The workers in their defense are insistent that it was not a full scale strike and quoted, "We observed a one-hour tool-down strike protesting against forcible eviction of four colleagues by police."

Due to this one hour strike that took place, a production loss of 50 units has been suffered. The last time these workers went on a strike was when workers demanded the recognition of a new union, the Maruti Suzuki Employees Union (MSEU).
