With ongoing work on a new four-cylinder engine, Matthias Mueller, CEO of Porsche does finds himself envisioning recreating the iconic 550 Spyder. Matthias Mueller, CEO of Porsche had this to say. “I can imagine that such a modern version of the famous James Dean Porsche would be well-received by our customers.”

It’s been a while that Porsche has discussed a new sub-Boxster model, but this time it looks very realistic. A recreated 550 Spyder would be slotted below the Boxster.  With weight reduction being a focus, one could b looking at a 3,000 lbs beauty that doesn’t compromise on safety and emissions equipment.

The new 550 Spyder may even benefit from the Volkswagen network. With the VW lineup missing a low-cost rear-drive platform, this tie up could concentrate more on tech and packaging rather than platform-sharing. The reborn 550 Spyder sports car will be seen at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The James Dean Porsche referenced to was in used in the “Little Bastard” when he went head on with a 1950 Ford in 1955. Dean never lived to tell the tale but 550 Spyder legacy lived.
