Maruti trying to entice its patrons

Competition is very good to keep everyone on their toes. Maruti Suzuki who is a forerunner in the auto market has confronted just the same. Competition from all quarters such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Tatas and GM is making the company sit up and take notice.

Shinzo Nakanishi, Managing Director of the company who are renowned as being number one Indian car manufacturer, is working hard on maintaining this position. Nakanishi, who is 64 years old and has been leading the company at the forefront since 1970 says that they were always at 7th or 8th position, but now at number 1 position he is finding it difficult to lead the company ahead.

Market share has seen a steady decline in the last few years from peak position in 1980 to 63% in 1999 to about 50% as of today. However, the company still has 45% monopoly in Indian car sales and has shown steady sales and profit figures.

Competitors and new rivals in the auto market are making Maruti Suzuki study new schemes and plans to help in retaining this position.
