When CBZ was bought in by Hero Honda way back in the year 1999, no other company could stand a chance with their array of 100cc bikes. This bike was robust, sporty and 150cc, something very new to the market in those years.
It was then that the 150cc+ bikes took the market by storm and compelled all the automobile makers to tweak their strategies and make way for these beauties. It is only later that the Pulsars, Apaches, and the R15s started entering the markets and increasing the Indian automobile market by heavy margins.
This was way back, now, in the current times, a similar situation has arrived for the 250cc+ bikes. Now, though Kawasaki launched a lighter version of Ninja, the Ninja 250R, the pricing was not as apt as a 50cc+ upgrade considering person would have expected.
Now, Honda has again managed to understand this problem of an average 150cc+ biker and launched the CBR250R at an affordable price. This fuelled its competitors in working hard and trying to squeeze out a 250cc +_in the similar range as the CBR250R. Thus, making 2011 a year to look out for bikes, that is in terms of 250cc bike market.
Yamaha Indonesia recently launched a monster machine, the Scorpio X-225 recently, and boys are we happy. The bike is 223cc air cooled, carburetor fed motorbike. The Scorpio vrooms at 18Bhp @ 8000rpm and has a torque of 17.5Nm @ 6500rpm. This bike is very nicely placed in the midrange of the Indian performance bike segments, which is 220+cc. Though Yamaha’s earlier bikes, FZ16 and Fazer were criticized for their not so great motors, Scorpio has coped up pretty well.
If the Scorpio is brought into the Indian markets, it will fit better than lego blocks, We say this as since the bike is air cooled, the pricing can be low and the fuel efficiency in the range 0f 35-40kmpl.
